HISTORY

The `Rijke Beukelaarstraat` is a slightly curved street with striking old buildings from the second half of the 16th century to the first half of the 17th century, a few with traditional top facades. Most houses were adapted in the 19th century, see windows, cementing, & typical door frames. In this street, number 12 is THE GREENHOUSE, for unknown reasons called House B in the early days. At the end of the 19th century, it was a pub, called Seamens’ Friends. If walls could talk… The Sint Andries district was in long passed times popularly called the `Parish of Misery`, but has since then evolved to a lively and thriving neighbourhood.
